Regular dental visits are important for children
Here at Thistlemoor Smiles Dental Clinic we are committed to and passionate about children’s dentistry; about preventing dental decay in children.
Help your children:
- Reduce sugar consumption
- Regular dental visits
- Use Fluoride toothpaste
Our dentists’ aim is to prevent dental disease rather than treat it. Prevention is better than cure.
Fluoride applications and fissure sealants (tooth-coloured sealants) can be applied to biting surfaces of children’s teeth to prevent decay.
Our oral health educators may be able to visit schools and nurseries to educate the children, and provide oral health advice to give them a good start to looking after their teeth and mouth. Please contact us for more details
FAQs About Children’s Dental Care
At what age should my child first visit the dentist?
We recommend bringing your child as soon as their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday. Early visits help them feel comfortable and allow us to check their dental development.
How often should children see the dentist?
Just like adults, children should visit the dentist every 6 months. Regular check-ups help prevent problems and keep their teeth healthy.
Do baby teeth really matter if they fall out anyway?
Yes! Healthy baby teeth are important for speech, chewing, and guiding adult teeth into the right position. Decay in baby teeth can also affect permanent teeth.
How can I protect my child’s teeth from cavities?
Encourage twice-daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste, limit sugary snacks and drinks, and attend regular dental check-ups. We may also recommend fluoride treatments or dental sealants.
What should I do if my child is scared of the dentist?
Our team is experienced in caring for nervous children. We use a gentle, friendly approach and explain treatments in a way that helps children feel at ease.
Can my child have orthodontic treatment?
Yes, if needed. We assess children’s teeth and bite as they grow, and can refer them for braces or aligners at the right time.
What happens during a child’s first dental visit?
We will gently examine your child’s teeth, gums, and mouth. If needed, we may take simple X-rays. It’s also a chance for parents to ask questions about brushing, diet, and oral care.
